Local Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd, has confirmed that over €672k has been approved by government this morning to develop five landmark buildings and structures in Drogheda. The monies have been granted through Failte Irelands “Urban Animation Capital Investment Scheme” which opened for applications in April of this year.
O’Dowd said “The scheme announced by Minister Catherine Martin aims to transform and re-imagine urban spaces and this particular investment will develop Drogheda’s historic streetscapes by bringing back to life the myths and legends associated with the River Boyne through lighting installations and street art.
“The five landmark buildings and structures that will benefit from the €672k are Barlow House, St.Peter's Church, Millmount, St. Laurence's Gate, Scotch Hall/The Boyne Viaduct.
“This is really wonderful news and a further statement on the government’s commitment to developing Drogheda, we are the only town in the country to have been allocated funding through the scheme.
“This announcement will further compliment the previous allocation of €500k for the Failte Ireland Destination Town Plan for Drogheda which is due to be completed in 2022, which will provide way finding signage along the axis of the old townwalls to link the Heritage assets in Drogheda’s historic core.
“We also have the Westgate Vision Plan and the Drogheda Implementation Plan progressing in the background, this is a really exciting time for Drogheda as we continue our transition to a city in the coming years.”
