A draft policy on the future development of Ireland's ports sector supports the development of additional deepwater port capacity on Ireland’s east coast, paving the way for the development of Bremore Port.
The landmark project, a joint venture between Chamber member, Drogheda Port Company, and Ronan Group Real Estate, would become Ireland’s first new deepwater port on the east coast in over a century and address critical port capacity deficits that threaten Ireland’s future competitiveness as a trading nation.
Bremore Ireland Port, located on the Meath-Dublin border, is uniquely positioned to meet these national challenges while creating a major new green innovation and economic development zone in the northeast.
It can also lead to a new vision for Drogheda Port when it comes to the PANCR and the development of the entire port area and subsequent supply chain opportunities.
Drogheda Port Company and Ronan Group Real Estate will now progress the environmental and planning consent process for the Bremore project, with applications to be advanced through Meath County Council and the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA).
“The Drogheda region is set for a multi-billion euro investment in trade and development when it comes to the maritime industry with the Bremore project,” Chamber CEO, Hubert Murphy, stated.
“We need to look at the big picture when it comes to the industries that can thrive as a result of this and the roles that will arise. The Chamber will play its part in driving elements of that.”
