TWO outstanding volunteer workers who have brought the good times back to an almost forgotten part of ancient Drogheda have been honoured with a Dr0gheda and District Chamber/BD Community Champions award.
John Bannon and Eugene Brannigan have become heroes of Old Abbey Lane for their selfless dedication to sensitively restoring the area over the last nine years.
Members of the Chamber team and corporate partners, BD, met with the duo to present the award – where else but on the lane!

“These awards are about rewarding people who go above and beyond for the area they love. John and Eugene must really love the place!,” Chamber CEO, Hubert Murphy, stated.
“The Old Abbey area is now a work of art in many ways. The planting, the seating, the mood of the place is what we need to aspire to throughout the area.”
Catherina McGuirk from BD said she was delighted to meet the two lads and was deeply impressed by what she saw. “They are incredibly dedicated to the place. It’s great to see,” she added.
The two lads have worked with the council and councillors to deliver the project and feel the work must continue to keep the place vibrant.
With the nearby Bru Digital Hub and Graft BruHub dining experience always willing to help out, the future for the Old Abbey is bright, led by two wonderful community champions.
