The agreement was signed at the launch event for the Portsmouth and South Coast Business Week at the Queens Hotel in Portsmouth.
Drogheda and District Chamber was invited to address the delegates, highlighting the enormous opportunities for overseas investment in the Drogheda region and Ireland overall.
Over 150 businesses from the south coast were registered for the launch with many expressing a new found interest in Drogheda. Members of the Victorious Festival team and David Bharier from the British Chambers of Commerce also spoke.
Drogheda Chamber was the first international organisation to address the event.
‘As a Chamber, we want to put Drogheda and its incredible potential on the big stage and this was truly one of those moments,’ Chamber CEO, Hubert Murphy, stated.
‘The links are significant already as both places have the Star and Crescent as their emblems. We were both granted our first charter in 1194. People were amazed at the connection and now it’s time to reinforce those links in a positive way for both areas.’ the CEO added.

A number of meetings with some of those in attendance took place and it’s hoped they will be progressed in the coming months.
‘For instance, the opportunities around offshore wind are huge and I believe we can engage people to be part of that journey for this region,’ he stated.
‘We intend to create solid working relationships with the team in Hampshire and open routes for our members to do business there via our contacts. At the same time, we’ll open channels for overseas parties to make Drogheda their European base,’ the CEO remarked.
Thanking Ross McNally, CEO at Hampshire Chamber and Aaron Butson, the CEO said the link with Hampshire aligns with the association with Lisburn Chamber and now gives the Drogheda region a range of new opportunities on the business and investment front.
