Chambers Ireland today welcomed the successful outcome of EU-Indonesia free trade negotiations, which will remove import duties on 98.5% of tariff lines and simplify export procedures for EU goods in key sectors.
“This agreement with Indonesia will help exporters seeking to diversify into new markets and this is critical from a long-term point of view,” said Chief Executive Ian Talbot. “Businesses benefit when trade barriers are removed and market access is increased and the past few months have shown why we need Free Trade Agreements advanced.
The Indonesia deal is a clear example of how EU trade agreements can deliver real value for Irish companies – other FTAs like Mercosur will offer similar benefits by opening access to another high-potential region.”
He continued: “The opportunities will be substantial for businesses and farmers – not only will sensitive EU agri-food products be protected but they will also be able to expand into a complementary market. Importantly, all EU Member States will be treated equally, with clearer rules and recognition of the EU as a single entity for export certifications.”
