Minister Niamh Smyth Launches Free “Digitise Drogheda” Workshop Series for Local Businesses

Drogheda & District Chamber is spearheading a new after-hours digital workshop series to help local businesses build practical digital skills, confidence and competitiveness.

Drogheda & District Chamber has officially launched Digitise Drogheda: After Hours Workshop Series, a new free business support initiative designed to help local SMEs access practical, usable digital knowledge in a fast, focused and local setting.

The series was formally launched last Thursday by Minister Niamh Smyth TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Trade Promotion, AI and Digital Transformation, at the Drogheda Digital Hub.

The initiative is being led by Drogheda & District Chamber, in collaboration with Local Enterprise Office Louth, Louth County Council and the Drogheda Digital Hub.

The free evening workshops will take place in person at the Drogheda Digital Hub, Narrow West Street, Drogheda, over the coming weeks. Each session will begin at 6:15pm and finish at 7:00pm sharp, giving business owners and teams access to high-impact insights in a concise, practical format that respects the reality of busy working lives.

The series was born out of a digital transformation roundtable hosted by Drogheda & District Chamber with local business leaders late last year. That discussion identified a clear appetite among businesses in Drogheda for accessible, practical digital upskilling, particularly around areas such as AI, data, cyber security, social media, websites, online selling and available business supports.

The workshops are free of charge, but places must be pre-booked and attendance is in person.

Speaking at the launch, Miriam Simon, President of Drogheda & District Chamber, said:

“This series is about taking the mystery out of digital. Local businesses do not need more noise, more overwhelm or more theory. They need clear, practical support they can use immediately. Digitise Drogheda is designed to give business owners and their teams powerful, usable information in just 45 minutes, after hours, locally, and free of charge.

“This initiative came directly from listening to business leaders in Drogheda. We heard a real hunger for digital upskilling, but it had to be accessible, practical and grounded in the day-to-day reality of running a business. That is exactly what this series delivers.

“Drogheda & District Chamber is proud to spearhead this programme, working in collaboration with Local Enterprise Office Louth, Louth County Council and the Drogheda Digital Hub. It is a strong example of what can happen when local business, local government and enterprise supports work together with a shared purpose.”

The workshop series will cover six practical areas:

  • Managing & Securing Your Business Data Delivered by Barry James, Nucleo Group
  • AI for Small Business Delivered by Miriam Simon, MiriamSimon.ie
  • Social Media That Drives Enquiries Delivered by Colm Hanratty, Sixtwo Digital
  • Website & Google Workshop Delivered by Keith Byrne, Create108.ie
  • E-commerce & Online Selling Delivered by Sabrina Basante, 2U Digital
  • Digital for Business Delivered by Gráinne McKeown, Local Enterprise Office Louth

The series is designed for business owners, managers and team members who want practical guidance without jargon. Each workshop will focus on real-world application, helping attendees leave with clear next steps they can apply in their own business.

Miriam Simon added:

“Digital is no longer something separate from business. It touches how we sell, how we communicate, how we protect data, how customers find us and how we compete. The businesses that build confidence now will be better positioned for growth, resilience and opportunity.

“Our message to local businesses is simple: book a place, come in person, bring a colleague if you can, and use these sessions as a practical starting point. This is about helping Drogheda businesses move forward with confidence.”

Places are limited and must be booked in advance.
