How has your business had a positive impact on Drogheda and District?
The town of Drogheda has always had a very strong and bustling business economy which is constantly evolving. The nature of business in the town has diversified from its industrious and manufacturing roots to one that is now varied and incorporates many sectors including manufacturing, distribution, retail, finance and service providers. We are very proud to have supported and continue to support many local businesses across these sectors.
The only constant in life is change and we can see this in the evolution of business and industry in the town of Drogheda. Running parallel to this evolving change has also been a constantly-changing regulatory and taxation environment which impacts upon these business sectors. Berrill Kiernan & Associates has adapted to these sectoral changes and has always been at the forefront of advising clients of their ever-changing regulatory and taxation requirements.
What’s next for Berrill Kiernan & Associates and the business in Drogheda?
There’s no hiding the fact that the business environment has changed dramatically over the years. Recently we have seen a reform of the PAYE System in Ireland with the introduction of PAYE Modernisation, the long drawn out Brexit and its implications for the North East and now COVID-19, which will change the way we all work.
Taking stock of this and similar to the constantly evolving business activity in Drogheda, we are always looking at ways in which we can facilitate our clients (both existing and new) and how we can add value to their business. With the global advances in technology and artificial intelligence, there are numerous opportunities for us to explore with our clients and assess how these advances could benefit their business. We are constantly exploring these areas for beneficial solutions, to enable us bring these advances to our clients for their advantage.
Tell us one thing people might not know about your firm?
The firm was actually founded back in 1964 with its original office just off the Fair Green, on Georges Street, in the centre of Drogheda. The firm has evolved since then and moved to its current offices at Bachelors Lane back in 1995. The firm rebranded with a new logo and identity in 2019. Our new logo takes the shape of an old 6-sided coin housing our Partners’ initials.
What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
“Get Comfortable being Uncomfortable!”
I think this transcends over numerous walks of life whether it is in the field of business or in the sports arena. It also links back to the idea of the constantly changing business environment. It’s a good thing to feel uncomfortable, it means you are progressing into new territory and learning new things. This idea of being uncomfortable is different and unique to each individual. However, getting out of your “comfort zone” and working on any perceived individual fear or weakness could result in a huge benefit for you and for your business.
