Where did your business idea come from? 

Having worked in as a Lecturer in Payroll & Employment Law I spotted a niche for a quality- driven, expert-led payroll service. The payroll processing industry was awash with charlatans and software applications that promised quick fixes at low costs but delivered very poor results. Over time the whole industry had become so cost conscious that the quality of service had evaporated. It seemed to me that everyone wanted to be the cheapest whereas I wanted Paycheck Plus to be the best.

I wanted to provide a service where accuracy, timeliness and compliance were paramount and I think our clients really appreciate that.

How has the business had a positive impact on Drogheda and District?  

I think the biggest impact has come from our company’s growth. Our team has gone from 1 employee to 25. And even with Covid-19 and all the added complications we’re still trying to add more staff. I love that we get to employ local people, but also that we get to support other local businesses and contribute to local charities and events. Being a big part of the local community is a real source of pride for us. It’s wonderful to be a part of and give back to our town, its people and our community.

What do you think has been your biggest achievement with the business?  

There have been so many great moments but receiving global recognition as Payroll Provider of the Year was definitely one of the highlights. It was a tribute to the team, our wonderful clients and the company itself. We won 11 awards last year, including 5 awards from our peers in the payroll industry but that one stands out, it really justifies our commitment to providing the best quality service.

What’s next for Paycheck Plus and the business in Drogheda?  

We are continuing to grow, both in terms of our range of services and territorially. We will be introducing some exciting new technological initiatives later this year which will ensure our clients continue to get the best customer experience possible.

Tell us one thing people might not know about your Company. 

Our team have almost 350 years of combined payroll experience. We might well be Ireland’s most experienced Payroll providers! There’s not much we don’t know about payroll!

What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?

Engage the best people possible. Then support, motivate and continually develop them to be the best that they can be.
