As part of our Membership Spotlight feature we recently spoke to Phil McDermott from Tara Mortgage Solutions about doing business in the Region.
Q. Tell us about your business and what you do.
Navigating the mortgage market as a homebuyer or homeowner can feel overwhelming, with so many options and terms to consider. That’s where Tara Mortgage Solutions makes all the difference. With years of experience, Tara Mortgage Solutions can provide expert advice to help you secure the best possible mortgage tailored to your needs.
At Tara Mortgage Solutions, we work with a wide range of lenders and mortgage products. Unlike dealing directly with a bank and being limited to their offerings, we shop around on your behalf, comparing rates and terms to find the perfect fit. Our goal is to help you secure a mortgage that suits your financial situation, making repayments manageable and giving you peace of mind.
Q. What do you think has been your biggest achievement with the business?
My biggest achievement is launching my own mortgage business in October 2024. After 25 successful years at Ulster Bank, making the leap into self-employment was a bold and exciting step. Since then, I haven’t looked back, fully embracing the opportunity to bring my wealth of experience and passion for helping people directly to my customers.
Q. Tell us one thing people might not know about the business.
When I started Tara Mortgage Solutions, my goal was to create a hassle-free, unique customer journey that fits seamlessly into busy lives. That’s why I offer a complete digital experience, from online appointment booking and video call consultations to digital signatures and an easy-to-use online application.
I understand that life doesn’t always allow time for lengthy meetings or office visits. With our user-friendly online platform, you can start your mortgage application from the comfort of your own home. You can also upload documents at a time and place that works best for you, a convenience my customers truly value. My aim is to make the mortgage process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Q. What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
The best bit of advice I got was get the basics right.
• Be Available: I’m here when you need me, providing support and guidance every step of the way.
• Listen to Your Needs: Every customer’s situation is unique, and I take the time to understand what matters most to you.
• Make It Simple: Mortgages don’t have to be complicated. I break everything down into clear, manageable steps.
• Build Relationships: It’s not just about the transaction; it’s about creating trust and long-term connections.
