Victories come in all shapes and sizes and that was exactly the case for Drogheda and District Chamber and Drogheda United FC. Together, they matched business with sport in the city of Trabzon in Türkiye and delivered big wins all round.
The football team defeated Trabzonspor 1-0 in a friendly and off the pitch, Chamber members from the club and Paysafe helped deliver a powerful message to the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and the Black Sea Exporters Association on doing business with Drogheda and the M1 Corridor.
Highlighting the success of the likes of WaterWipes, other key elements included the new Bremore Port and the vast array of Chamber members, working in health, finance, whiskey production, data centre technology, renewables, cement production and tourism, amongst others.
The Chamber’s association with Lisburn, Hampshire and West and North Yorkshire Chambers featured, with the aim of adding to that ‘stable’ with friendship links in Türkiye and parts of the Middle East.
Another big engagement was with the 26 ambassadors from around Europe who are based in Türkiye. They attended the match and learned about the great links between Drogheda and the country, thanks to the Irish ambassador, Clare Brosnan and her team and EU delegate, Mehmet Demir. That was part of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Türkiye.
Meetings with tourist representatives in Trabzon also took place, including the Holiday Inn at Trabzon East.
A number of local businesses attended the events and it was great to meet the Lennon Group who are making big strides in their business as well.
As the dust settles on a whirlwind three days, delivery and introductions kick in for our Chamber members over the next few weeks as they reap the benefits of top level international Chamber engagement for this region.
