The Irish Military War Museum is the latest local firm to join the Drogheda and District Chamber family. https://youtu.be/cJ5yuh7_SY4
Based at Starinagh, Collon, Co Meath, the facility, which has been open for a decade, was founded by Drogheda man William Sullivan who has sourced thousands of items from around the world, making the museum one of Ireland’s finest.
Though he is a staunch anti-war advocate, he is fascinated by military influence on technology and innovation, and is keen to share his insights into the evolution of weaponry and technology advancements with museum visitors.
The venue is much more than a museum and the 88-acre site also features a playground and picnic area.
It has won the Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice award for seven consecutive years and is ranked as one of the top ten museums in the country.
The museum features all eras, from both world wars to 1916, the Vietnam War and many others.
It is very much a hands on experience and those visiting can handle the exhibits and dress up in military attire.
One section is dedicated to the story of Clogherhead woman Jennie Hodgers who fought as Albert Cashier during the American Civil War, while Mother Mary Martin’s time as a nurse in WWI is also chronicled.
“I have no doubt if this museum was in the centre of London it would have tens of thousands of visitors each week. It is incredible and has to be up there as a must see on the east coast of Ireland,” chamber CEO Hubert Murphy stated. “If you haven’t seen the Irish Military Museum, head out to Starinagh, you won’t be disappointed.”
William said he was delighted to join the chamber and hopes for close collaboration in the years ahead.
The museum also features conference/meeting facilities.
