How has Flogas had a positive impact on Drogheda?

We have been a leading employer in Drogheda since the company was established in the late 1970s. We’re proud of our connections to the town and the surrounding Louth/Meath area and of our track record in supporting local suppliers.

Many of our staff are very engaged in local community activities and sporting events and Flogas is happy to have provided sponsorship and support for a wide variety of good causes over the years. We were delighted to be the premier sponsor of the Drogheda Chamber Business Excellence Awards in 2018.

Tell us one thing that not many people know about Flogas?

While we’re very well-known as a supplier of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) in tanks and cylinders to homes and businesses throughout Ireland, Flogas also supplies natural gas to residential and business customers. More recently, we’ve been supplying electricity to business customers.

What achievement are you most proud of - both personally & in business?

I’m very proud to work for the only company in Ireland that can supply both LPG and Natural Gas for cooking, heating and hot water to Irish homes and businesses, no matter where they are.

On a personal level, I’ve been involved in the Termonfeckin beach cleaning project. I was initially roped into it by my wife Barbara and I was shocked to see the amount of plastic that comes in on the tide on a weekly basis and sadly, what other beach users leave behind. It’s brought home to me how serious the problem is with ocean pollution. We had two official beach cleans last year and it’s been very rewarding.

What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?

There’s a famous mock Latin phrase that a fellow employee shared with me when I first began my working life, about not letting the so-and-sos grind you down when you’ve had a difficult day. It apparently originated during World War II and still good advice 80 years later!

What is your favourite thing about Drogheda?

While I love the town’s historical past, my favourite thing at present is the boardwalk from the town, beginning at St. Dominic’s Park and following the Boyne up to Oldbridge, which I’ve walked many times.

What does being a Chamber Member mean to you?

The Chamber is a great way to connect with local businesses and other members and keeping up to date with what’s happening in the town and surrounding areas.
