Drogheda Chamber Spotlight Special Edition
John Conroy, Marketing Manager, Flogas.
How has Flogas had a positive impact on Drogheda?
We have been a leading employer in Drogheda since the company was established in the late 1970s. We’re proud of our connections to the town and the surrounding Louth/Meath area and of our track record in supporting local suppliers.
Many of our staff are very engaged in local community activities and sporting events and Flogas is happy to have provided sponsorship and support for a wide variety of good causes over the years. We were delighted to again be the premier sponsor of the Northeast Business Excellence Awards in
2023.
Tell us one thing that not many people know about Flogas?
While we’re very well-known as a supplier of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) in tanks and cylinders to homes and businesses throughout Ireland, Flogas also supplies Electricity and natural gas to residential and business customers. More recently, we’ve just announced that we are the
official energy partner to the Irish Olympic Team for the Paris 2024 games.
What achievement are you most proud of - both personally & in business?
I’m very proud to work for a company that employs so many people from the local Drogheda area and across county Louth. Even though I am from Dublin myself I see the immense pride that so many of my colleagues have in working for a company that contributes so much to the local area.
On a personal level I am very proud to manage St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh U13’s GAA team. I got involved when my youngest son Alex joined the club as a 6 year old and have been managing them since U8. My eldest son Jack who has Autism is also a part of the Plunkett’s All Stars Team and it fills me with immense pride when I see the progress that he and all his team mates are making.
What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
I was once told many years ago when first starting out on my career to “Control the Controllables” and I try to do this in my business and personal life. There are many things outside of our control but if we concentrate on the things that we can do and can influence, do them well and
make contingencies for the things you can’t control and if you can do that you’ve got most parts of any task covered.
What is your favourite thing about Drogheda?
I’ve gotten to know the people and the town quite well in my 18 months working for Flogas. Drogheda is a really vibrant town with a proud history and the people are so proud of where they are from. As a sports lover myself I’ve really connected with the people of Drogheda and their love of all sports be it Soccer, GAA, Golf or Horse Racing, there are so many things that make Drogheda a very special place.
What does being a Chamber Member mean to you?
The Chamber is a great way to connect with local businesses and other members and keeping up to date with what’s happening in the town and surrounding areas.
