There’s a quote on the award, presented to Drogheda Tidy Towns this week, stating, “Three key words sum up Drogheda Tidy Towns – community, community and community”.
The latest recipients of the Best of the Boyne Green Awards, in association with Oxigen Environmental and Drogheda and District Chamber, the tidy towns group in this region has been simply inspirational in how they have collaborated, planned and delivered key projects right across the sectors.
The Stepping Stones project saw up to 4,000 trees planted – and more to come – works of art were installed on the roundabouts coming into town at Southgate, Boundary Stones were refreshed and saved, new biodiversity projects were undertaken, cleaning operations launched with Louth CC, Meath CC and Tus as solid partners, the list just goes on and on.
The future promises more interaction on the old quarry at Mell and what can be delivered there, a sustainability team will hopefully come on board, the Carthy Stones will become a project, the Glen will be transformed and who knows, maybe more works of art and murals to bring even more vibrancy to the district.
One thing is certain, Drogheda Tidy Towns don’t rest on their laurels as they go and go, 12 months a year.
For Drogheda and District Chamber and Oxigen Environmental, rewarding efforts like this is what it’s all about and if it helps inspire more people, of all ages, to come forward and get behind the tidy towns, all the better.
They are actively seeking more volunteers, including area representatives who will take charge of the many districts and estates around the town.
