“Awarded for outstanding commitment to environmental awareness within the school and the wider community. Their hard work, industry and leadership inspires us all”.

That quote probably sums up the winners of our very first Drogheda and District Chamber/Oxigen Environmental and Orange Skip Hire ‘Best of the Boyne Green Awards’ – the team at St Mary’s DS Transition Year.
It was pretty special to walk into the Beamore Road school and hear about the incredible work of students and their teachers, all going the extra mile to make their Drogheda a better, cleaner and more environmentally conscious place.
Led by Mr Barrett and Ms Curtis, some 120 students have adopted their local area over the last two months, carrying out extensive clean up projects at the likes of Bully’s Acre, the Dale, the Beamore Road and Calvary. They’ve also assisted with the ABACAS school and overall, bring a great warmth to their local community by means of social interaction.
They were told their efforts inspire hope within themselves and those they love and their neighbours, while the key to everyone’s place in life is to make a difference – for the good of all. The rewards that volunteering brings does much to enhance young people and make their area a better place.
The Mary’s lads have done much down the years to evoke a change in attitudes and that’s something they’ve dedicated themselves to again in 2025.
John Doyle from Oxigen Environmental and Orange Skip Hire said the firm was delighted to be part of the awards scheme and was delighted with the huge turnout for the initial awards ceremony.
