THE continued expansion of Drogheda Institute of Further Education as a centre of future learning has been epitimised by a world 'first'.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Sumitomo Electric Lightwave hosted the first Fusion Splicing course outside of the USA in DIFE this week.
"Such enterprising projects and vision by AWS as well as DIFE and LMETB management shows the potential that exists in the workforce in this region," Hubert Murphy, Drogheda and District
Chamber President, stated.
"A number of those on the two day course scored maximum points and it was great to see a number of local companies on hand to talk to the students afterwards. Davy McDonnell and his team at DIFE deserve great credit for the way in which they have driven the delivery of some
outstanding projects and this is just one of them.
"Collaboration with market leaders like AWS is a vote of confidence in Drogheda and long may it
continue."

Drogheda and District Chamber is delighted to be associated with the 2023 St Patrick's Day parade.
The launch event in McHugh's Venue was a true celebration of all that's great about the town.
"The Drogheda Festivals group and all the elements that support such a day deserve enormous credit for the job they do. The parade is a combination of passion, hard work, industry and organisation and those responsible for it deserve enormous credit," Chamber President Hubert
Murphy stated. "The sponsors are vital when it comes to days like this and again, they have come out in support of the town."
The Chamber is backing the best window display and can't wait to see the hard work of the many businesses in the town.
The launch night was particularly special for volunteer Liam Reay who has spent 33 years on the parade committee and was named as Grand Marshall for this year's March 17 celebration.
"Liam does so much for Drogheda - including United -and it was great to have the chance to congratulate him on the night," Hubert stated.
