Sometimes, when life is not so easy and a listening ear is like gold, you need the Samaritans and Drogheda has been lucky to have had their services for the last 30 years.
Founded in 1996, many locals have helped build a remarkable service and it was a pleasure to honour former director, Martina Harrison, as part of our BD/Drogheda and District Chamber ‘Community Champions’ series.

Martina, part of the Samaritans for 24 years, was delighted to see the work of the group recognised after three decades of invaluable commitment to the community.
The branch was founded in 1996 and was originally based in "The Stables" before the move to their present home, 3, Leland Place, Stockwell Street, in March, 1998. In May 2004, they took over number 2, the house next door, for use as a training and meeting centre.
The Drogheda & North East branch of Samaritans is run entirely by volunteers. They offer volunteers comprehensive training and continued mentorship in the Drogheda centre.
If you would like more information or to become a volunteer, they'd love to hear from you. Contact them anytime.
Catherina McGuirk, Plant Manager at BD, paid tribute to Martina and all the volunteers for their incredible service to Drogheda and the North East.
Our thanks to BD for their partnership with these awards that honour our everyday heroes.
