Drogheda and District Chamber calls for core infrastructure to be at the heart of the National Development Plan

Drogheda and District Chamber is backing a nationwide call to action on delivering the State’s key infrastructure.

Speaking on the ongoing review of the National Development Plan (NDP), Chamber Chief Executive, Hubert Murphy, commented:

“Infrastructure is at the heart of the matter. Without improvements across the board, from certainty with electricity supply for both homes and businesses, large scale investment in the water supply and key upgrades in transport, we are going to struggle to deliver on the promise that’s out there.

“It is a nationwide problem, but Drogheda is a perfect microcosm of what is needed. We are looking at 7,500 new homes on the Northern Cross Route and the various commercial services that must come with that. Can our electricity resources match the potential there and can developers be certain of upgrades when needed? Can wind energy off our coast be our saviour in the years to come?

“Have we the water infrastructure to feed this development or the growing area of South Louth. Will our waste water resource be sufficient to sustain these numbers?

“What is the timeframe on the completion of the Northern Cross Route and can we get the funding in place to deliver it?

“Our message is clear: The potential of Drogheda is absolutely massive. But at the moment, there’s too many questions and not enough concrete answers from government. As a chamber, we are ready to sit down with stakeholders and help build a sustainable and deliverable Drogheda and district - today.”
