The region needs to retain the organisation, determination, focus and ambitions of the Drogheda Implementation Board, Drogheda and District Chamber has stated.
The DIB was established in October 2021 as a result of the feud that threatened to rip the town apart. The Guerin Report highlighted over 70 actions needed to be tackled.
Resourced by Department of Justice and hosted by LMETB, a cross agency team of 32 organisations came together to form a board and subgroups to take on the task.
Some €21m was pumped into the town as a result, with more than 50 jobs created.
This week, the board is scheduled to complete its term and come to an end.
“Drogheda and District Chamber is keen to see a form of the Implementation Board continue its dynamic work in this region,” Chamber CEO, Hubert Murphy, stated.
“What the members delivered during the course of the programme was remarkable and all that great work should not be undone.
“We were greatly encouraged by a commitment by An Taoiseach, Simon Harris, on a new taskforce plan for Drogheda and that should be kicking off in the not too distant future. If there’s no extension to the DIB, then its goals and ambitions should be accommodated within that new body,” the CEO added.
He praised the roles of Grainne Berrill and Michael Keogh in the success of the DIB and how it met so many of its objectives.
“Its legacy will only be really felt in the years to come,” he stated.
