Monthly Legislative Newsletter: July re-cap, an update on the status of legislation monitored since January

 

Things to note this month:

  1. Industrial Relations (Amendment) Bill 2018 has been signed into law by the President this month
  2. Courts (Amendment) Bill 2019 has been passed by both houses
  3. Citizens’ Assemblies Act 2019 has been signed into law by the President this month
  4. Local Government Rates and Other Matters Act 2019 has been signed into law by the President this month  

 

In relation to the Local Government Rates Act - the Government has brought in this act to regularise how Local Authorities around the country calculate and collect Commercial Rates; allowing businesses to spread out payments across the year; simplifying the legal mechanisms for debt collection associated; and permitting Councils to include rate reductions and waivers as part of area plans which are aligned with the National Development Plan.
