DROGHEDA Chamber has commended the Drogheda Lions Club for marking the outstanding part local woman Geraldine Byrne Nason has played in promoting Ireland on the world stage.

The Irish ambassador to the United States of America, the former Greenhills girl was given honorary life membership of the Lions Club at a function in Scholars Townhouse Hotel.
"It was a wonderful gesture from the Lions Club, which is a bastion of good in the Drogheda region," chamber president Hubert Murphy stated. "The Lions Club does so much great work and having been founded back in the 1970s, it has stood the test of time well."
Ambassador Byrne Nason is one of Ireland's top civil servants and has also served in France and to the United Nations in New York.
"There are few who have made the impact on the world stage that Geraldine has. People say she's the 19th Irish ambassador to the USA, but she claims to be the first Drogheda ambassador to the States!"
