Louth County Council has taken another important step in the regeneration of West Gate House and the former Drogheda Youth Development (DYD) building. The Council has now signed a contract with Shaffrey Architects, who will lead the detailed design for the refurbishment and redevelopment of this significant heritage project. Shaffrey Architects will also head the multidisciplinary team that will deliver the works on site.
The project, which was awarded €7 million under the THRIVE programme, will transform West Gate House into a multi-functional cultural and community hub, with a performance space and rooftop garden.
West Gate House is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021–27.
Cllr Seán Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, said:
“West Gate House is one of Drogheda’s most recognisable historic buildings, especially for those entering the town. Today marks a major step forward in securing its future. This project will protect the building and bring new life and activity into this important gateway to the town centre.”
