      • Drogheda Walks

        A map of four walks which highlight the natural beauty, built heritage and historical wealth of our town.

        The walks range in length from the 1.5km ‘Five Bridges’ walk, to the 6.5km ‘Steps’ walk. The 4km historical ‘Walls’ walk and pretty ‘Spires and Towers’ walks traverse both sides of the river and reveal great views.

        Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre - Visitor Centre open from 10 May 2021 10am - 4.30 pm Free Admission - Walled Garden open 10am - 5.30pm Public Toilets open 10am - 5pm

        Tea Pavilion open presently for outdoor dining only, Announcement on indoor dining due shortly from Government Takeaway Service available .

        Entrance Gate to the Oldbridge Estate closed at 5pm , Exit Gate closed at 7pm sharp.

         

        Bru na Boinne Visitor Centre - All admission to Newgrange and Knowth is through Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre only. There is free admission to centre but the only tour available is the Brú na Bóinne Tour – Outside only A visit to the exteriors of Newgrange and Knowth, There is no access to the chamber at Newgrange, This is the only tour option available and is self-guided. Face Covers are Mandatory during your visit.

         

        Francis Ledwidge Museum , Slane - The museum is open 7 days a week from 10am - 5 pm Normal admission fees apply Phone 041-9824544

         

        Irish War and Military Museum, Collon - The museum is open on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 10am - 5pm . Normal admission fees apply

         

        Sonairte Ecology Centre, Laytown - Centre open Saturdays and Sundays 10am - 5pm Free entry. This weekend there will be guided tours and talks by Brendan Matthews at 2pm. Fee €10. Bookings 041-9827472

      • Laurence's Gate

        Built in the 13th Century to guard the town of Drogheda, Laurence's Gate is considered the finest 'barbican' gate in the country.

        Millmount Museum & Tower

        The mound at Millmount is reputed to be 3,000 years old and local folklore has it that Amegin, the Celtic poet is buried there. When the Normans came to Ireland in the 12th century, Hugh De Lacy built a defensive Motte and Bailey here, overlooking the mouth of the Boyne.

         

        St. Peters Church

         

        St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church was built in the French Gothic style of local limestone ashlar in 1884. The church is famous for its tall west gable, rose window and for containing the national shrine of St. Oliver Plunkett.
